Early Life and Education
Kareena was born into the prestigious Kapoor family, one of the most prominent families in the Bollywood industry. Her father, Randhir Kapoor, is a renowned actor and filmmaker, and her mother, Babita, is a former actress. She has an elder sister, Karisma Kapoor, who is also a famous Bollywood actress.
Kareena was initially named Siddhima but was later renamed Kareena after the character Kareena in the novel Anna Karenina, which her mother was reading at the time of her birth. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School and Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun. Later, she studied at Mumbai’s Mithibai College and pursued a degree in commerce. Kareena then went on to study law at Harvard University for a brief period but dropped out to follow her acting career.
Bollywood Debut
Kareena Kapoor made her Bollywood debut in Refugee (2000), directed by J.P. Dutta, opposite Abhishek Bachchan. While the film didn’t perform well at the box office, Kareena’s performance was appreciated.
Her breakthrough came with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), directed by Karan Johar, where she played the role of Poo, a glamorous and fashionable character. The film was a massive commercial success and cemented her place in Bollywood.
