Sai Dharam Tej was born in Hyderabad, Telangana, to a prominent family in the Telugu film industry. He is the nephew of popular Telugu actor Chiranjeevi and the cousin of actors Ram Charan and Pawan Kalyan, making him part of the influential Konidela-Nandamuri family.

He completed his schooling and college in Hyderabad, and like his relatives, he pursued a career in the film industry.
