Christian Bale was born in Wales but spent much of his childhood moving between England, Portugal, and the U.S. His mother was a circus performer, and his father was an entrepreneur and activist. He developed a love for acting at a young age and made his first major appearance in a commercial at just eight years old.

Bale gained attention in 1987 when, at 13 years old, he starred in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun, earning widespread critical acclaim.
