Jon Hamm was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and had a difficult childhood—his mother passed away when he was ten, and his father died when he was 20. He attended John Burroughs School, where he developed an interest in acting.
He later studied at the University of Missouri, where he majored in English and acted in theater productions. After college, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting but struggled for years before landing major roles.
