Dwayne Johnson was born into a family of wrestlers—his father, Rocky Johnson, was a professional wrestler, and his grandfather, Peter Maivia, was also a wrestling legend. He grew up moving frequently, living in different states and even in New Zealand for a while.

He attended the University of Miami on a full football scholarship and played as a defensive lineman. In 1991, he was part of the national championship-winning team. However, an injury ended his NFL dreams, leading him to pursue professional wrestling.
