Ravindra Jain was born into a middle-class Jain family in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He was blind from birth, but his parents, Pt. Indramani Jain and Kiran Jain, encouraged him to pursue music. He received his early musical training from Pandit G.L. Jain and other classical musicians.
Despite his visual impairment, he had an extraordinary memory and a deep understanding of music, which helped him compose timeless melodies throughout his career.
Musical Career
Early Struggles & Breakthrough
Ravindra Jain moved to Mumbai in the early 1970s to try his luck in Bollywood. After struggling initially, he got his first break as a composer in “Saudagar” (1973), where his music received critical appreciation. His melodious compositions and meaningful lyrics set him apart from other music directors of his time.

- Geet Gaata Chal (1975) – Songs like “Geet Gaata Chal”, “Shyam Teri Bansi”, and “Tera Mera Saath Rahe” were massive hits.
- Chitchor (1976) – Featuring the evergreen tracks “Gori Tera Gaon”, “Jab Deep Jale Aana”, and “Aaj Se Pehle Aaj Se Zyada”.
- Tapasya (1976) – Songs like “Do Panchhi Do Tinke” became memorable.

He also worked on Shri Krishna (1993), making him a favorite among devotees.
