Aishwarya was born into a Tulu-speaking family. Her father, Krishnaraj Rai, was an Army biologist, and her mother, Vrinda Rai, is a homemaker. She has an elder brother, Aditya Rai, who is an engineer and has co-produced one of her films, Dil Ka Rishta (2003).
She attended Arya Vidya Mandir High School in Mumbai and later pursued architecture at Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture. However, she left her studies midway to focus on her modeling and acting career.
