RAJ KAPOOR

Raj Kapoor was a legendary Bollywood director, actor, and producer, known for his pioneering contributions to Indian cinema. Born on December 14, 1924, in Peshawar (then in British India, now in Pakistan), he was the son of Prithviraj Kapoor, a prominent actor and theater artist.

Early Life and Career:

Raj Kapoor made his debut in the film industry as an actor with Inquilab (1935) at the age of 10. He later joined his father’s Prithvi Theatre, a traveling theater company. His early exposure to acting and theater laid the foundation for his future career in cinema.

Film Debut as Director:

Kapoor ventured into filmmaking with Aag (1948), which he directed, produced, and acted in. While the film was not a commercial success, it showcased his unique vision and established his presence as a director. His next films, such as Barsaat (1949), proved to be major hits, earning him recognition as one of Bollywood’s top filmmakers.

Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (1997):

  • Raj Kapoor was posthumously honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his contribution to Bollywood and global cinema.

Personal Life:

Raj Kapoor married Krishna Malhotra in 1946, and they had five children, including actors Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, and Rajiv Kapoor. His family has remained closely involved in the Indian film industry.

DEATH : Raj Kapoor passed away on June 2, 1988, at the age of 63. He died due to heart failure at his residence in Mumbai, India. His death marked the end of an era in Indian cinema, as he was not only a celebrated director and actor but also a cinematic icon who had a profound impact on Bollywood.
