Early Life and Education
Yash Chopra was born into a Punjabi family in Lahore. He was the youngest of eight siblings. After the Partition of India in 1947, his family moved to Jalandhar, Punjab. Initially aspiring to become an engineer, Chopra moved to Bombay (now Mumbai) to pursue his passion for filmmaking under the guidance of his elder brother, B.R. Chopra, a prominent filmmaker.
Career
Yash Chopra began his career as an assistant to B.R. Chopra and I.S. Johar. He made his directorial debut with Dhool Ka Phool (1959), a social drama that explored themes of illegitimacy and morality. Over the years, he evolved into one of India’s most iconic filmmakers, known for his romantic dramas, grandeur, and emotional depth.
Yash Raj Films (YRF)
In 1970, Yash Chopra founded Yash Raj Films (YRF), which became one of India’s most successful production houses. YRF has produced iconic films such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein, and Dhoom, shaping modern Bollywood.
